Hannah began her internship with mongabay in of July 2012. She has had a passion for wildlife since a very young age and has, in the past few years, started to act on it. While only being 17, Hannah has already gained experience in different aspects of both wildlife and its conservation. Hannah has been involved in the equestrian world since she was about 8 years old, not only riding, but also volunteering at a barn for the better part of 9 years. In the summer after her freshmen year at high school, Hannah began to volunteer at a program called Soundwaters. Soundwaters is the leading environmental education center on the Long Island Sound and works toward its conservation through education.
Hannah’s next summer was a real life changer. She has always known that she wanted to be a wildlife biologist, but this was truly the first time she could get a taste of her future. Hannah was lucky enough to be able to attend a primate study throughout Costa Rica and Panama. This study not only consisted of observing primates in both primary and secondary forests, but also learning about threats to these animals and the importance conservation will play in the survival of different primate species throughout the world. She also was able to spend time at a primate sanctuary in Quepos, Costa Rica working hands on with many different primates, from marmosets to spider monkeys.
As Hannah approaches her senior year of high school, she is lucky enough to yet again return to Costa Rica to the same sanctuary she had stayed at the summer prior. Currently, Hannah is living in Poughkeepsie, NY, but has much bigger plans for the rest of her life. After obtaining her college degree, she hopes to study animals in all far corners of the world.
