OBOJŽIVELNÍCI A PLAZI V DEŠTNÝCH PRALESECH

V tropických deštných pralesech žije ohromné množství plazů (hadů, ještěrů, želv, želviček a krokodýlů) a obojživelníků (žab, ještěrek, mloků, čolků a červorů). Nalezneme je prakticky na všech možných místech, přežívají jak v korunách stromů, tak i v potocích či řekách.

Bohužel většina plazů je v dnešní době ohrožena. Především díky zmenšujícím se plochám pralesů, obchodu se zvířaty a změnami životního prostředí. Nejvíce ohroženi jsou obojživelníci, které hubí smrtonosná nákaza šířící se po celé zeměkouli. Jen za posledních 30 let tato nákaza vyhubila 170 druhů žab a ještěrek. Vědci stále ještě nemohou s jistotou říci, co tuto nákazu způsobuje a jak ji léčit. Mimořádná opatření zavedená na záchranu nejohroženějších druhů zahrnují mimo jiné jejich přechovávání v ZOO, akváriích a botanických zahradách do té doby, než bude nalezen protilék.
